iPad V2.0

The famous Apple brand tablet computer took this last year by storm and ever since its release Apple lovers have been talking about the release of the iPad 2. Certainly there were those who were happy with the release of the first version of the iPad but the true Apple lovers knew that while the first version of this sleek tablet was pretty futuristic, that the second version would bring more improvements to the table. So for the last year Apple fans have been waiting on the edge of their seats anticipating the release of the iPad V2.0. Some even considered that Apple would break their traditional release cycle of products to get a push out for the holiday season; however, those people were met with expected disappointment when Apple refused to break tradition and instead relied upon the sales of the original iPad to get through the holiday season. For Apple there was no reason to break their traditional cycle of product release when the iPad was still in such high demand and the competition was in such low volume.

Anticipation of the iPad V2 Release

With the original iPad sold by Apple in April of 2010 (Wi-Fi model US release April 3, 2010; Wi-Fi + 3G model US release April 30, 2010) the release cycle has almost completed a year and iPad lovers are already chomping at the bit in anticipation of the iPad 2 release. With sales of the original iPad topping over 14 and a half million units in 2010 more than half of those consumers are awaiting the release of iPad V2.0 to replace their original unit. Between those who are awaiting an upgrade of their iPad V1.0 and those who refrained from purchasing the original iPad in favor of the expected upgrades on the iPad V2.0. So what are these upgrades and features that have so many Apple customers waiting with bated breath for the upcoming release? Although Apple is remaining tight lipped as always on the features for the iPad 2.0 there are many rumors floating around in regard to what might be included.

Aesthetic Improvements

- Rounded edges so that the new iPad resembles the iTouch with a more rounded shape

- Front and rear facing cameras to support FaceTime chatting

- A 7” iPad model (although it Is doubtful that this feature will be implemented in V2.0

- Thinner casing

- A sun-proof screen

- Lighter unit

- A built-in stand (this rumor comes only from a single source at this point)

Technological Improvements

- Inclusion of an A5 processor

- Increased RAM

- Maximum resolution of 2048 x 1536

- USB expansion

- A wireless networking chip that allows for all carriers to carry the iPad

- A high resolution retina display (the retina display seems to be a highly questionable feature at this point)

- Improved speaker and speaker placement

- Inclusion of an SD slot

Software Improvements

- Upgrade to Apple’s Ping service

- iOS5

So what is the estimated release date for the new version of the iPad? Guesses range from presales at the beginning of March and shipping in late March to stocking of the product in stores at the end of April, but for now it’s all up in the air! Until then why not try your luck as an iPad reviewer at Test and Keep.
